The Fiesta is the best selling car Britain has ever had, and an enormous number of them are running the 1.0 EcoBoost. That engine runs its cambelt inside the engine, sitting in oil, and drives the oil pump with a second belt in oil. When the belt breaks down it sheds material into the sump, that material blocks the oil pump pickup screen, and the engine loses oil pressure.
Fiestas are especially exposed because of how they get used. Short journeys, school runs, town driving, a lot of cold starts and not much time at proper operating temperature. Oil that never fully warms through holds moisture and contaminants, and that accelerates the breakdown of the belt. A low-mileage Fiesta is not automatically a safe Fiesta.
Not every Fiesta has one. The older 1.25 and 1.4 petrols use a conventional external belt, and the 1.5 TDCi diesel does too. If you are not certain, the registration checker will read the engine off the DVLA record and tell you.

Does the Ford Fiesta have a wet belt?

When does a Fiesta wet belt need doing?
Most specialists now work to six years or 60,000 to 70,000 miles, whichever arrives first, regardless of the longer figure printed in the original service book. On a Fiesta the six years usually arrives long before the mileage does, because these cars tend to do short local trips rather than motorway miles.
My Fiesta has low mileage, am I safe?
Not necessarily, and this is the mistake we see most. The belt degrades chemically in hot oil, so age matters as much as distance. A 2018 Fiesta with 30,000 miles of short journeys has had its belt sitting in oil for eight years, and short-trip use is the harshest pattern there is. Worth checking rather than assuming.

What happens if I ignore it?
The belt sheds material, the oil pickup blocks, oil pressure drops and the engine can seize. On a Fiesta that usually means a replacement engine costing more than the car is worth.
