The honest answer is more interesting than a straight yes. The Puma arrived in 2019, by which point Ford had already revised the 1.0 EcoBoost so the camshafts run on a chain rather than a belt in oil, and every 48V mild hybrid uses that revised engine. So the part that destroys pre-2018 EcoBoosts is not there. What is still there is a small wet belt driving the oil pump, and that degrades in exactly the same way.
That distinction matters, because plenty of garages will tell a Puma owner either that the whole engine is a wet belt disaster waiting to happen, or that a chain means there is nothing to worry about. Neither is right. The oil pump belt is a smaller and cheaper job than a full cam belt replacement, but it still sheds material into the oil, and that material still ends up at the oil pickup screen.
The early diesel Pumas are the exception. The 1.5 EcoBlue sold in small numbers up to 2021 uses a genuine belt-in-oil cam drive and needs the full job. If you are not certain which engine is in yours, put the registration into the checker below and it will tell you.

Does the Ford Puma have a wet belt?
Partly. The petrol Puma uses the revised 1.0 EcoBoost, which drives the camshafts on a chain rather than a belt in oil, so it does not have the cam belt that causes most wet belt failures. It does still drive the oil pump on a small wet belt, and that degrades and sheds material into the oil in the same way. The early 1.5 EcoBlue diesel is different again and does have a full belt-in-oil cam drive.
When does the Puma oil pump belt need doing?
It is less stressed than a cam belt so it lasts longer, but it is not a lifetime part and it is not covered by a normal service. The earliest Pumas are 2019 cars, so the first wave is at six years now. The single most important thing you can do meanwhile is keep to the correct oil specification and change it on time, because oil condition is what drives the degradation.
Does the mild hybrid system change anything?
It is the reason your Puma has a chain rather than a wet cam belt. The 48V starter generator does not fit the older engine layout, so every mHEV uses the revised engine with the chain cam drive and the turbo moved to the firewall. The oil pump wet belt stayed, and the extra stop-start running that the hybrid encourages is not kind to oil.
Is my Puma still under warranty?
Ford warranty is typically three years, so most Pumas approaching the belt interval are out of it. Using an independent garage does not affect any remaining manufacturer warranty, provided the work is done to the correct standard with the right parts, which is protected under the Block Exemption Regulation. We use OE-quality parts and keep full records.
What does the job involve?
A full day at our Milton Road workshop. Cambelt, oil pump belt, tensioners and seals, then the oil pickup screen cleaned or replaced and the system flushed, and a refill to the exact Ford oil specification. Wet belt engines are unusually fussy about oil grade, and the wrong one measurably shortens the life of the new belt.
