The Ranger split in 2019. Everything from that point runs the 2.0 EcoBlue, in single turbo or bi-turbo form, and that engine uses a belt-in-oil cambelt plus a second wet belt driving the oil pump. Anything earlier is either the 2.2 TDCi with a conventional external belt or the five-cylinder 3.2, which is chain driven.
Rangers are worked hard, and that matters here. Towing, loaded running, site use and long idling all put heat and hours through the engine that a mileage figure alone does not capture. A Ranger that spends its life towing a plant trailer is ageing its belt faster than the odometer suggests.

Does the Ford Ranger have a wet belt?
The 2.0 EcoBlue fitted from 2019 onwards does, in both single turbo and bi-turbo form. The earlier 2.2 TDCi uses a conventional belt on the outside of the engine and the 3.2 five-cylinder is chain driven. Enter your registration in the checker on this page to confirm which you have.
When should a Ranger wet belt be changed?
Six years or 60,000 to 70,000 miles is the interval most specialists now work to, whichever arrives first. On a Ranger used commercially the mileage usually gets there first, and heavy towing or site work brings it forward again.
Does towing shorten the belt life?
It contributes. Towing means sustained high load, higher oil temperatures and more time at full working temperature, and the belt degrades chemically in hot oil. It is not a reason to panic, but if your Ranger tows regularly it is a reason to treat the interval as a maximum rather than a target.
